HES880 Mobile Drive has been designed from the ground up as a compact drive that can tolerate harsh conditions and heavy operation. These design features make it ideal for heavy working machines and small vessels where it is not possible to protect the drive in special cabinets.


We wanted to make HES880 easy to use in all aspects. This is why it shares the same tools and parameter structure as our very popular ACS880 industrial drive family so that there is no new learning needed if you use both drive families. We have also worked hard to make the commissioning of the Mobile Drive as easy as possible. To help OEMs simplify logistics and reduce stock items we designed HES880 hardware to support three different operation modes, so it can act as an inverter, line converter or DC/DC converter.

Highlights

HES880 is suitable for many shipboard applications like propulsion, generators, DC/DC conversion (energy to and from batteries and super capacitors), cranes, and winches. Thanks to the very compact size and IP67 cast aluminum enclosure HES880 is very well suited especially for smaller vessels where drives need to be installed in tight spaces with limited/no protection from the elements.

The key design features of our off-grid functionality are high quality of the electric power in the grid, capability to feed high fault currents and ability to compensate harmonics. While the grid quality and ability to compensate harmonics are obvious benefits, the high fault current capability is just as important. High fault current is needed for the electric protections to pick up faults.

Also beneficial is the possibility to use dual winding control when high power or redundancy is needed. In high power application you stil have half power available if one unit fails.

Having spare parts onboard is easy as there is only one hardware that can perform in three different modes.

As mining is performed in a very wide range of atmospheres we have designed our HES880 Mobile Drive to tolerate a wide range of ambient temperatures and to have a high environmental protection class. When we add to this the high cooling liquid temperature, we get a drive that can be used in very harsh environments.

Mining operation itself is also very demanding so we designed HES880 to withstand heavy vibration and shocks and to be able to handle strong cyclic loads, all of which are normal for heavy machinery operation.

The of the design covers the benefits mentioned above but it is much more. HES880 design does not have any fans, batteries or electrolytic condensators, so it is maintenance free. It is also fully liquid cooled.

When these reliability benefits are combined with high power density, support for all common motor types, 99% efficiency and flexible CAN bus interface you get a product perfectly tuned for heavy working machines usign electric power trains. Further design benefit is the ability to use one hardware for thre different purposes.
