ACS880 drives for chemical industry

Are you looking for a motor control solution that maximizes uptime and comprehensively fulfills chemical industry requirements?

In case the answer is yes, our ACS880 industrial drives might be exactly the right choice for you. These drives are designed to run reliably even in non-ideal supply network conditions including voltage fluctuations. The built-in Direct Torque Control (DTC) technology ensures high starting torque of the motor resulting in highly reliable process start. ACS880 drives fulfill extensively chemical industry requirements, e.g. NAMUR recommendations, and offer wide range of product options including ATEX certified thermistor protection and safety functions module. The drives are available for new installs and retrofits of older systems.

Features and benefits

Reliable process start with Direct Torque Control (DTC) technology

  • Ensures highly reliable starting of gear pumps, compressors, extruders and membrane pumps due to high starting torque
  • Manages under voltage dips of supply network without process interruptions
  • Accurate torque limitation for mechanical protection of extruders
  • Ensures reliable flying start of fans
  • When used together with sine filter, the peak voltage and voltage rise rate requirements in chemical industry, such as NAMUR NE38, are fulfilled

Fulfill NAMUR recommendations for communication and I/O

  • The drive's control software is capable to communicate via PROFIBUS-DP according to NAMUR NE122 recommendation
  • Communication between drive and process control system using VIK-NAMUR profile can be easily and reliably set up with minimum effort
  • Possibility for I/O solution according to NAMUR NE37

Simplified installation with ATEX-certified thermistor protection module

  • Enhances process safety and simplifies installation
  • Together with Safe Torque Off (STO) function of the drive, implements the Safe Motor Temperature safety function (EN/IEC 61800-5-2) that prevents the motor from exceeding the specified temperature limit
  • Complies with the requirements of the European Union Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and European ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU
  • Certified by TÜV Nord and VTT expert services Ltd

Equipment protection with ATEX-certified Safe disconnection function

  • The built-in Safe Torque Off (STO) function of ACS880 drive is certified as a Safe disconnection function according to ATEX Directive
  • Enables using the drive's STO as an actuator when building the temperature protection function for certain type of motors
  • Eliminates the need of contactor in the temperature protection
  • Enables building the temperature protection function by using the ACS880 drive
  • The drive's STO function is designed in accordance with EN/IEC 61800-5-2 and complies with the requirements of the European Union Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. The STO achieves SIL 3 and PL e safety levels.
  • ATEX-certified Safe disconnection function complies with the requirements of the European ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU and is certified by TÜV Nord and VTT expert services Ltd.
