High-performance features enable relentless operation and protection for steel furnaces at lower costs
ABB enhances its portfolio in China with the launch of medium-voltage circuit breakers with VD4- Arc Furnace, a unique solution based on vacuum technology and innovative actuation systems, to provide a new high quality, reliable and efficient solution.
The VD4-AF circuit breaker, which performs up to 150,000 close-open operations, ensures zero downtime for breaker overhaul thereby reducing total costs of the furnace operation. The embedded control unit enables optimized operations with servomotors, increasing the circuit breaker’s performance by up to ten times of what could be previously achieved.
“We recognize the steel manufacturer’s daily challenges to boost output and increase utilization levels of assets,” said Matteo Caiti, Global Product Group Manager, Control and Protection Products for ABB. “The VD4-AF solution enables their operations to run continuously to produce the highest quality product.”
The VD4-AF circuit breaker is designed with a draw-out, roll-on-floor construction, to be combined with the ABB PowerBloc enclosure. This allows a faster and easier integration or replacement operation. This together with the 150,000 close-open operations result in more than a 50 percent reduction to the frequency and duration for inspection or maintenance, compared to any other solution.
