Engineered for America: Showcasing ABB’s Growing Investment in U.S. Manufacturing

New Berlin, Wis. campus strengthens American manufacturing and research & development

ABB’s new Engineered for America campaign shines a spotlight on the company’s strengthened commitment to U.S. manufacturing and innovation. Engineered for America reflects ABB’s belief in investing where it matters—right here at home. The United States is ABB's largest market, generating approximately $10 billion in revenue in 2025—nearly 29 percent of the company's global total. From 2022 to 2024, the company invested approximately $500M in U.S. manufacturing and research and development to meet growing customer demand, delivering electrification and automation technologies engineered to outrun, leaner and cleaner.

Led by the $100 million investment in ABB’s flagship New Berlin, Wis. campus, Engineered for America highlights innovation, sustainability, community impact and employee empowerment at ABB sites across the country throughout 2026.

Manufacturing Excellence Meets Customer Innovation

"The New Berlin site is more than a manufacturing facility—it's a showcase of what's possible when innovation, sustainability, and customer-centric design come together under one roof,” said Tuomo Hoysniemi, President of Division Drive Products. “It integrates manufacturing, engineering, customer experience and service capabilities, creating a collaborative environment where ABB teams and customers work side-by-side to solve real-world challenges.”

“We have been highly successful in attracting, retaining and empowering our employees,” said said Tuomo Hoysniemi, President of Division Drive Products. “This facility exemplifies ABB’s growing reputation as an Employer of Choice in the region.”

The facility manufactures variable frequency drives (VFDs) and controls that provide precise motor control for industrial and commercial applications. These products support essential infrastructure—including data centers, hospitals, buildings, utilities and industrial operations—helping customers improve energy efficiency and operational performance.

New Berlin houses the Drives Service Workshop (DSW), where drives are serviced for repairs and/or preventive maintenance by ABB experts. Components are replaced with genuine ABB parts, and each drive is tested to ensure reliability and safety.

Local-for-Local Manufacturing Strategy

The New Berlin investment supports ABB's local-for-local strategy, including localization of production to meet Build America, Buy America (BABAA) requirements. The site has been operational since 1988 and produces the majority of ABB drives installed across North America.

Sustainability Leadership

The facility is designed as a Mission to Zero™ site, incorporating energy-efficient and low-emission technologies that demonstrate ABB's commitment to responsible operations. Sustainability features include: Rooftop solar panels, LED lighting and energy-efficient building design, & digital energy monitoring and management systems.

It serves as a showcase site, sharing sustainability learnings and best practices across ABB's global operations and with customers seeking to advance their own environmental goals.
