ABB’s new RXplore app helps operators and site engineers perform maintenance of their Relion protection relays on-site in an intuitive and simple way. The app makes it possible to securely connect ABB’s devices to a mobile device, such as a smart phone. As a result, operating and maintenance personnel no longer have to carry a laptop to the site to perform simple operations. Via the app, users can change settings/parameters and easily read and share information about the protection relays.
When using the app, users can choose to connect to the site’s wireless network (WLAN) that the ABB devices are connected to or alternatively connect to ABB’s cloud services to fetch operative data about the supported devices.
Cyber security considerations are central to RXplore and the app is never connected to both the site’s WLAN and ABB’s cloud services at the same time, thus ensuring that the site network is never exposed to an outside network.
Currently the app supports selected products from the Relion® REX640, Relion 615 and 620 series as well as the ABB Ability™ Condition Monitoring for switchgear - SWICOM. RXplore performs a scan of the pre-defined network to discover supported ABB products installed at the site. Alternatively, RXplore can connect with and operate one single device. The app will be extended with more product variants in the upcoming releases.
Download the RXplore mobile application on Google Play (Android) or App Store (iOS). To quickly get an overview of the functionalities offered, you can try out the app in demo mode. Simply activate demo mode under the Options menu.
