ABB technologies supply electricity to the newly opened Space Exploration Centre in Latvia

Did you know that NASA's Perseverance rover, which landed on Mars in February 2021, is equipped with ABB Ty-Rap™ cable ties? ABB’s Ty-Rap™ cable ties are keeping wires in the latest Mars rover organized and safely secured.

But this is not ABB's only connection to space. ABB Latvia also provides power transmission solutions, current switching, and protection for the newly opened Space Exploration Centre in Cēsis, Latvia.

The Space Exploration Centre aims to stimulate children and young people's interest in STEM. While the focus is on space technology, each themed section introduces visitors to science, engineering, and math through the theme of space in an educational way.

The new centre is a self-sufficient building and meets sustainability requirements. In addition to that, the centre uses energy-efficient LED lighting powered by solar panel power plants. An automated control system controls energy consumption to ensure energy saving.

The internal power supply in the building achieves the highest electrical safety standards by implementing ABB low-voltage technologies such as circuit breakers, switchboards, and power distribution solutions which play an important role in ensuring safe and uninterrupted use of both the building, and the exhibits.

ABB technologies include OT switch disconnectors, ComfortLine and UK series switchgear and S200 range miniature circuit breakers, enabling ABB to guarantee reliability and efficiency. ABB System pro E power, an innovative solution for main switchboards, meets all wiring requirements regarding the degree of protection, form of segregation and electrical characteristics. Additionally, the system provides perfect synergy with all ABB low-voltage equipment to ensure the reliability and efficiency levels expected by building managers.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, the Space Exploration Centre car park is equipped with electric car charging points: four two-way quick chargers that can charge up to eight cars and an electric bus at the same time. ABB Kabeldon switchboards are used to supply the chargers with electricity.
