Underwater radiated noise (URN) is a major issue for the environment. Noise dissipates rapidly above the surface, but it travels four times faster through water. The IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) is currently updating mandatory URN regulations for 2023, and the team at ABB has been focused on researching and developing underwater noise technologies for more than a decade by collaborating with industry partners and classifying societies and regulators in leu of the current review of 2023 guidelines.
