ABB Relion REX615 is an all-in-one protection and control relay for power generation and distribution applications in primary and secondary distribution. It represents the next step for ABB’s 615 and 620 series relays. The ABB Relion REX615 provides protection and control for a complete range of applications including feeder, line differential, transformer, machine protection, shunt capacitor, interconnection protection, automatic voltage regulation, voltage protection, busbar protection and arc protection. ABB Relion REX615 is designed fully compliant with the IEC/ANSI and CN standards and offer optimal cyber security, promoting secure connectivity and safeguard our customers’ network. 

ABB’s protection and control relays are available for original equipment manufacturers (OEM), panel builders and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPCs) partners to incorporate in their own installations or for use in repair, retrofit and upgrade projects.

Latest addition to ABB’s Relion® relay family – strengthening the REX portfolio.  

ABB Relion REX615 leverages the same configuration software as all ABB Relion protection and control products.  Relion REX615 offers fully modular and scalable hardware and software to ensure flexible adaptation to changing protection and communication requirements.  It also features integrated arc flash protection enabling detection of arc faults in the busbar, circuit breaker and cable compartments. Additionally, Relion REX615 has a unique earth-fault protection portfolio for optimal selectivity, sensitivity and reliability – irrespective of the type of network and fault.

1. Does ABB Relion REX615 replace the 615 and 620 series relays?  

Correct, there will be no more releases for neither the 615 series nor the 620 series. REX615 represents the next step for both series. 
2. How many application packages are there in ABB Relion REX615? 
There are 12 different application packages and two alternative add-on packages for machine protection. 
3. Where can you see what functions are included in the various application packages? 

The name of the application package gives a good indication of its content. To support the selection of application package(s), a document listing all available functions per application package will be accessible via ABB Relays-Online upon the release 
4. Is the ABB Relion REX615 the same as Relion REF615? 
REX615 represents the next step for both Relion 615 and 620 series relays. REX615 is mechanically identical to the 615 and 620 series relays, the standard-sized relay to 615 and the wide one to 620. Hardware dimensions, modules, wiring connections and mounting kits are the same. 
5. Are ABB’s Relion protection and control relays easy to maintain?  
Yes, ABB’s Relion protection and control relays feature a plug-in design that makes performing maintenance or replacement easy. It is also easy to change the relay as requirements change – just modifying it with a software application package. 
6. Are ABB’s Relion protection and control relays customizable for specific needs? 
It is easy to modify ABB Relion’s medium-voltage protection and control relays. It’s simply a question of installing a new software application package to meet the specific need(s).
