This service is a secure, fast and ABB approved way of updates delivery and implementation in comparison to, for example, the standard internet connection to a Microsoft server or to servers of the various malware protection providers. The System Update Service is a scheduled and highly automated process that requires minimal manual intervention for a complete and secure implementation. The dedicated ABB server for updating applications, operating systems, malware protection solutions (through definition files updates) and delivering security update files is linked to the ABB (security) validation reports and updates service.
The downstream security server at the customer site synchronizes with the ABB server using ABB’s SRP (Secure Remote Platform)* connection, avoiding an open internet connection.
* SRP id the replacement for the Remote Access Platform (RAP). Both solutions will be supported in parallel, once SRP is available and until RAP gets decommissioned.
System Update Service requires a valid Automation Software Maintenance agreement for the target control systems and is available for the System 800xA, Symphony Plus, Freelance and P14 control system product families at selected software versions.
System Update Service is available through an annual subscription fee. It is based on the size of the system, specifically the number of concurrent users within the covered control system nodes at the customer site. When the System Update Service is combined with the Cyber Security Workplace (CSWP), the annual subscription fee is determined by the number of nodes managed by the CSWP.
