Predictive Maintenance

LEAP, Life Expectancy Analysis Program, is the new predictive diagnostic analysis program for New Emax circuit breaker.

This analysis aims to define a maintenance program according to the real circuit breaker needs based on the real operating conditions in order to maximize efficiency and security and reduce the management costs related to the product’s life cycle.

The analysis consists of 4 phases:

Preventive Maintenance

ABB Low Voltage Breaker Service, based on its technical knowledge of the products and on its experience in the field, offers a Preventive Maintenance Program – PMP – for all the old and new generation families of Air Circuit-breakers (Emax 2, New Emax, Emax, Megamax and Novomax) to reduce the risk of failure and deterioration.

The Preventive Maintenance Program has the following main targets:

  • Check the preservation and the efficiency status of the apparatus.
  • Anticipate the trend of deterioration of the circuit-breakers, signalling the need of replacement for excessively worn out components, where available, or suggest alternative solutions for bringing them up to date.

Preventive Maintenance creates value over the long-term by: 

  • Providing the best management of maintenance costs, in particular: 
    • Less expensive direct costs of maintenance, by reducing the charges due to urgent situations.
    • Less expensive indirect costs of plant shut-down, taking advantage of the scheduled stop.
  • Ensuring better efficiency and reliability of the plant.
  • Extending the circuit-breaker’s life.
  • Guaranteeing the plant safety for a longer time. 

Life Cycle Assessment

ABB's life cycle services for Low Voltage Products helps you to understand the status of your assets, and advises you on the maintenance needs for its environment.  This helps you to design the appropriate maintenance strategy for your plant, and identify migration points where required. 

Inspection and Diagnostic

Through proprietary asset assessments and risk analyses tools, ABB helps you understand your risk profiles and supports your planning of a targeted, economical maintenance program.

With New Emax and Emax 2 breakers, LEAP can be used to assess equipment conditions while the equipment is in service.
Testing of controls and measurements are available both on site and in our workshops and labs.
Where applicable, thermographic analyses can also be carried out.  

Reconditioning Services

When ordinary maintenance is no longer sufficient, a complete overhaul of the electrical apparatus must be carried out in order to solve problems specifically connected with a particularly long or heavy use of the products.

ABB can perform complete circuit breakers overhauls or reconditioning if necessary. To ensure that we perform our job efficiently and smoothly, specialized tools and equipment are used.

Our global network of Service Centers can offer reconditioning services of circuit breakers, either on-site, or in our well-equipped local workshops.  A comprehensive refurbishment program consists of a complete rebuild to original breaker specifications, and the upgrading of the products to the latest versions.
