Motor Starting & Protection for premium-efficiency motors

IE3 / IE4 ready for premium-efficiency motors and the new AC-3e utilization category

High-efficiency motors plays a vital role in reducing energy consumption to achieve the Paris agreement as 45% of the world’s electricity is used to power electric motors in building and industrial applications.

ABB is a long-standing advocate of the need for high efficiency in motors and offers service proven motor starting and protection solutions IE3 / IE4 ready.

Motor manufacturers changed design and use better conducting material to achieve lower rated motor current for any given kW rating. However, during the motor starting phase, there may be an increase in inrush starting current that may affect the selection of the starter components as well as the short-circuit protection device.

ABB participates in IEC working groups and IEC high-efficiency motor task forces and offers a portfolio which is IE3 / IE4 ready and matches the new utilization category AC-3e. We will deep dive on common challenges and guide you how to select the correct solution for your application.
