Driving sustainability

ABB leverages its electric, automated and digital technologies to enable safer, smarter and more sustainable marine and ports industries

ABB Marine & Ports is committed to a sustainable maritime future

Enabling a low-carbon society by eliminating  emissions in ports and for costal vessels, and  reducing emissions for ocean-going vessels  through our leading technologies. Furthermore, we eliminate emissions in our own operations and influence our suppliers to do the same.
Preserving resources where we embed circularity  across our value chain through recycling, reusability and reducing waste while making our solutions more durable.
Promoting social progress where we create safe, fair,  equitable and inclusive working environments  in which people can succeed and develop.

How will we do it?

  • Our people are the brains behind anything we do and are fundamental to drive and deliver our commitment.
  • Together we will support our customers in their sustainability journey by delivering solutions that reduce CO2 emissions, improve circularity and safety of operations.
  • This is made possible through our focus on innovations that preserve resources and make the maritime industry cleaner and more efficient.
  • Further, we will embed circularity criteria in product development and design.
  • This extends to our suppliers, who we engage to help improve their sustainability performance.
  • Finally, we aim for carbon neutrality in our own operations with focus on reducing energy consumption, increase efficiency and reduce waste to the lowest practical level.

Health, Safety and Environment

Health, Safety and Environment are priorities for our business and at the forefront of our decision making. Our HSE & Security Management System is based on internationally recognized sustainability standards, principles and commitments including ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

We value and maintain the competencies of our employees and our contractors by providing the variety of trainings to make our operations safe and sustainable. We treat all events as an opportunity to learn better ways for managing our risks and take time for learning from when things go well and when things go wrong.

By working with ABB, you can be sure that health, safety and the environment is being taken care of in the form of safer, leaner products and operations.

Human rights

In addition to adhering to ILO Core Conventions on Labor Standards, ABB applies UN's guiding principle of human rights, according to which businesses;

  • A void causing or contributing to adverse human rights impacts through their own activities, and address such impacts when they occur.
  • Seek to prevent or mitigate adverse human rights impacts that are directly linked to their operations, products or services by their business relationships, even if they have not contributed to those impacts.

In order to identify, prevent, mitigate and account for how we address human rights impacts, we have implemented the following due diligence processes;
  • We require supplier commitment to our code of conduct.
  • We have certified human rights champions who support and provide training for sales, supply chain management and operations, among others.
  • We proactively conduct pre-tender assessment to recognize risks.
  • We regularly audit our suppliers as well as our own internal processes.
