Project partners GTT, CMA CGM (CMA Ships), OMT, ABB, Solar and DNV GL have put forward a visionary concept for an electric driven 20,000 TEU ULCV vessel with an LNG-fuelled combined cycle gas and steam turbine electric power plant. The PERFECt ship project is delivering promising results that demonstrate the economic potential and technical feasibility of this truly innovative concept.
Main dimensions
Length over all 399.6 m
Breadth moulded 59.0 m
Depth moulded 32.8 m
Scantling draught moulded 16.0 m
Maximum speed 22.0 knots. Service speed 21.0 knots
Total Container capacity: 21,077 TEU (300 TEU more than the conventional reference ship)
Propulsion concept
The Piston Engine Room Free Efficient Containership project challenged ABB to study the most optimized propulsion system for the concept. Six different propulsion layouts were generated and OPEX and CAPEX studies were executed. Based on analysis a contra-rotating CRP Azipod® propulsion concept was chosen for PERFECt .
Benefits
ABB started developing contra-rotating solutions in early 2000. Studies ensure that screw propeller thrust rotational losses are between 5-15% and CRP Azipod® propulsion system can recover the majority of it. Enhanced maneuverability offered by the Azipod® improves the large-sized vessel handling on port.
