Malta becomes a ring station through the use of a compact switchgear. (ABB's SafeRing or SafePlus model or a similar product). An air-insulated load break switch with fuses or a compact switchgear can be easily added to the satellite-station.
A transformer with a maximal power of 400 kVA and a low voltage distribution with fuse-disconnectors complete the station.
The clever design in the concrete construction enables flexibility in size and configuration. Ventilation grilles vary in size and position according to internal arrangements. Furthermore, with the doors at the front allowing access to the medium and low voltage distributions, MALTA can be built into a corner, providing savings in space. A second covered cable access point in front of the housing maintains the smart appearance.
The transformer is placed directly onto the foundation with a galvanized oil sump underneath. The MV compact switchgear and the LV distribution are mounted on a self-supporting metal frame, fixed at an approximate height of 500 mm above the foundation level. This leaves the front area free for the cables to and from the LV distribution, which can easily be accessed by opening the removable covers on the floor.
