Compact secondary substations for solar and wind applications

Transformer substations, collector stations and inverter substation meeting the latest global IEC standards up to 24 kV.

Solar and wind renewable energy is rapidly growing globally. Power is generated at low voltage DC levels and transformed up to medium voltages for network distribution. ABB’s CSS product portfolio is flexible to meet renewable generation needs with robust, arc-tested solution, reliable and high levels of safety for people and products.

Product scope

Standard Substation  - this CSS is made of concrete or sheet metal enclosure (per market
requirements) manufactured per the latest IEC standard 62271-202 and consists of primary low voltage AC switchboard, step up distribution transformer (oil or dry type) and medium voltage gas insulated or air insulated secondary switchgear.

Inverter substation - this CSS is made with a concrete or or sheet metal base frame (per market requirements) per the latest IEC standard 62271-202 consists of DC/AC inverters, primary low voltage AC switchboard, step up distribution transformer (oil or dry type) and medium voltage gas insulated or air insulated secondary switchgear.

Solar Grid Substation - outdoor switching stations to connect a full solar park to the grid, manufactured in sheet metal housing consist of medium voltage switchgear (gas insulated - GIS or air insulated - AIS type) per client’s requirements fully equipped with all protection relays, measurements, monitoring and control systems. Housing can be walk-in or non walk-in to meet site space limitations, while air conditioning is an option to meet environmental conditions.
