Fixed speed asynchronous squirrel cage induction generators (SQIG)
Traditional stall concept with the generator directly coupled to the grid. The old stall type turbines used conventional robust asynchronous squirrel cage induction generators (SQIG).
The first generator types were single speed asynchronous generators for the stall type fixed speed turbines, followed by 2-speed generators trying to make the turbines a bit more efficient and also quiet during the silent night time.
