Increasing comfort and energy savings in residential, commercial and industrial buildings is set to become easier and more efficient with the launch of ABB’s renewed range of digital and analogue time switches. One of ABB’s Smart Cities’ Mission to Zero solutions, the range will support customers in operating more sustainably today and in the future.
The new digital and analog time switches allow users to control lighting, heating, ventilation and watering with daily, weekly or yearly schedules, so that energy can be switched on and off according to opening times, sunsets, public holidays or vacation dates.
“ABB is always looking for ways to deliver reliable energy for our customers. In times of increasing energy consumption and scarcity of resources, energy management has become central to the way we live our lives. By giving greater flexibility and control of digital and analog time switches, we are giving people the tools to only use energy when and where it’s needed, so that when work finishes, the heating will automatically turn down and the lights will switch off,” explains Piero-Giorgio Schiannini, Global Product Group Manager Energy Distribution.
The capability to control a single or group of loads makes ABB’s digital time switch range ideal for use in commercial buildings. Depending on the application and level of automation used in the overall solution, customers can achieve average savings of up to 50 percent in energy consumption.
In parallel to the range renewal, ABB has launched an intuitive application for iOS and Android smartphones to reduce commissioning time of digital time switches by up to 80 percent. The new app gives users greater control of smart functionality to reduce wastage and effectively manage energy usage in homes and commercial buildings.
Bluetooth-enabled, the app is designed for easy configuration and visualization of ABB’s digital time switches. New programs can be easily created and transferred from one device to another. Users can also change key settings, such as date, time and location and activate random and cycle functions. They can view parameters and manually control relay outputs via the LCD display and a built-in internal battery keeps operations running even in the event of a power outage.
The refreshed time switch range and app are ideal for multiple applications, from automatically activating a water irrigation system in a public park, to closing and opening shutters at defined times of day in commercial buildings. Thanks to a channel extension that makes the yearly time switch capable of controlling up to eight relays, users can also control lighting systems in multiple rooms from their handheld device.
