ABB’s renowned UniGear medium-voltage (MV) air-insulated switchgear family was launched in 2000 and has been continuously enhanced and adapted to meet requirements from new and emerging market trends. Now ABB is introducing UniGear ZS1 63 kA as an expansion that further strengthens the portfolio.
The new high rating has been added to complete the UniGear portfolio for demanding applications in, for example, power stations and steel, oil&gas and chemical plants. The 63 kA short circuit current rating has been developed based on market feedback. One of the prevailing trends in industry is to implement higher scale processes, which increases power demand. The use of 63 kA networks will bring new possibilities for electricity distribution networks.
The new UniGear ZS1 63kA short circuit current rating is available up to 17.5 kV. Customers can now select standard UniGear panels configurations in applications where until today, they had to apply special designs or use segregated power networks. The use of standard panels will bring efficiency to both operations and capital expenditure.
“Completion of the UniGear family with this additional rating is the confirmation of how this product family continues to go from strength to strength” said Marco Tellarini, Global Product Group Manager in the Distribution Solutions business line. "This extension brings great advantage to the end users as it meets their needs of increasing power consumption in a cost-efficient manner.”
The UniGear family consists of metal-enclosed, type-tested MV switchgear designed for primary distribution up to 40 kV. The product family includes a comprehensive range of switchgear variants and are available in accordance with many different standards, including IEC, CSA, GOST, and GB/DL.
UniGear offers the perfect combination of highest reliability and maximum safety for personnel, operations and the environment. The switchgear’s easy-to-use, robust operating mechanisms, coupled with state-of-the art components that require minimal maintenance, has made the product range one of the most successful in the world with an installed base of about 500,000 panels globally.
The switchgear family is also available with ABB Ability™ digital solutions to meet the increasing demands for a smarter electric network. Digital switchgear solutions are able to take on shorter project cycles, frequent changes and meet stringent cost-efficiency requirements.
