AC500-eCo - CPUs

Based on the successful AC500 range, the extremely compact AC500-eCo PLCs offer the most flexible and economical configuration available, low-cost and straightforward servicing, and all requirements of a modern control system from small to demanding applications.

  • For over a decade, the AC500-eCo V2 has been a proven and reliable range of CPUs tested in the field, and it is well established on the market. AC500-eCo V2 will remain active for a few years in parallel with the new AC500-eCo V3.
  • The new AC500-eCo V3 CPUs are based on the same concept and footprint as AC500-eCo V2. They enhance the range with a larger memory, and more processing performance. The new CPUs provide more onboard I/O channels and more scalability via option boards which extends the feature set while maintaining the footprint. Additionally, they include various fieldbus communication capabilities and connectivity to cloud applications with secure protocols.
  • ABB uses a standard IEC61131-3-based programming system for the entire AC500 family - you will be up and running in no time with Automation Builder engineering suite.

AC500-eCo V2 fast overview on features and devices

Features

  • 128 kB program memory, program processing time 0.08 µs/instruction.
  • CPU module PM556 and PM566 with 512 kB program memory for more complex applications available.
  • 1 onboard RS485 serial interface (2nd is optional).
  • Centrally extendable with up to 10 I/O modules (standard S500 and/or S500-eCo modules can be mixed) – this means up to 335 local I/O channels.
  • Optional memory card/memory card adapter for data storage and program backup.
  • Fast counter up to 50 kHz.
  • All analog inputs on PM564 and PM566 CPUs can be configured as digital inputs to allow individual customer solutions.
  • File handling including ZIP and UNZIP functionality.
  • Web server (Java based), FTP server and SNTP features for Ethernet CPUs.
  • PM556 and PM566 CPUs contain SMTP client for sending emails.

Multiple communication options

  • Our AC500-eCo PLC package comes with a comprehensive range of communication options as standard.
  • An integrated serial interface provides an easy means of exchanging data.
  • A second serial interface can optionally be attached, allowing for the possibility of having a total of two serial ports available for programming and communication purposes.

Interfaces/protocols

  • The Ethernet interface (Ethernet CPU variants) can be used for programming and communication (protocols SNTP client, DHCP, UDP, Modbus TCP, HTTP and FTP).
  • The serial interfaces COM1 and optional COM2 can be used for programming, communication (Modbus RTU and programmable ASCII). Additionally COM1 provide remote I/O connectivity with Modbus RTU and CS31 master.

AC500-eCo V3 fast overview on features and devives

AC500-eCo V3 is a comprehensive range of PLCs providing ready-to-go solutions with all necessary components onboard to be used for entry-level automation solutions. The CPUs in the three different performance classes Basic, Standard and Pro are compatible for seamless scaling.

Features

  • Up to 8 MB user program memory (program, data and web data) and up to 100 kB remanent data, no battery required.
  • Extremely fast program processing time, down to 0.02 µs/instruction.
  • Floating-point processors for fast and precise calculation.
  • Up to three RS485 serial interfaces using option boards.
  • One or two independent Ethernet interfaces with switch capability.
  • Web server HTML5, FTP(s) server and SNTP/NTP features.
  • OPC UA server or OPC DA for data exchange, MQTT with secure TLS protocol.
  • Onboard or optional real-time clock, without a battery.
  • Micro memory card slot for data storage and program backup.
  • Up to 22 onboard I/O channels with transistor or relay outputs.
  • New fast I/O channels for up to four fast counters/encoders and up to four PTO/PWM outputs for simple motion applications.

  • Our AC500-eCo PLC package comes with a comprehensive range of communication options as “standard” or “optional” and “licensed”.
  • Optional serial interfaces can be attached, allowing for a total of up to three serial ports for communication purposes on Modbus RTU.
  • Ethernet and the optional serial interfaces provide an easy means of exchanging data.
  • The integrated web server with HTML5 visualization with a very large memory allows for customized visualization for up to four simultaneous clients (with web browser), which can be connected to the CPU.

Interfaces/protocols

  • The Ethernet interface can be used for programming and communication protocols such as SNTP/NTP client, DHCP, UDP, Modbus TCP and also for remote I/O, HTTP(s) and FTP(s).
  • The new CPUs provide IoT protocols as standard, such as OPC DA, OPC UA server and MQTT.
  • In addition, the Pro CPU version supports IEC 60870 protocol for telecontrol applications.
  • Various new, licensed protocols can be added, such as Ethernet/IP scanner and adapter, EtherCAT Master, IEC61850 power station protocol but also KNX and BACnet for building management applications.
