Environmental protection and climate change

ABB also aims at building a better world by supporting various kinds of environmental protection campaigns. ABB joined hands with one of key customers – Inner Mongolia Power Company to fight against desertification. ABB donated to support tree-planting near Three Gorges Reservoir area. At the same time ABB carries out low-carbon leadership capacity building training in Beijing, Shanghai, Yunnan, Shanxi, Shandong and other places, and helps enterprises with low carbon management and sustainable development.

Ordos Anti-desertification project

ABB started the project in Maowusu desert with Ordos Power Company in Inner Mongolia. Till 2012, over 3345 Mu sand was reforested, the sand grids could enhance the stability of the power supply and secure the surrounding residents.

Low Carbon Leadership Capacity Building project

In 2009, ABB supported WWF to implement a series of training workshop on low carbon leadership capacity building in Beijing, Shanghai, Yunan, Shanxi and Baoding, to help improve energy efficiency management of high energy consumption enterprises. In 2012, ABB focused on Shandong province to organize training workshops. Besides that, experts from ABB help local companies identify energy saving opportunities.

Green Yangtze Project

In 2010, ABB donated RMB 500,000 to plant trees near Yangtze River, to protect the natural forest and improve ecological environment of the Three Gorges Area. Local ABB employees also actively involved garbage clean-up activities in the wetland along the Yangtze River.

“Island Care Day” environmental protection activities

Five ABB companies in Xiamen have supported “Island Care Day” activities for several years. They not only sponsor environmental forums, but also organize volunteers to wetland protection activities.

Earth hour

ABB continuously participate in the Earth hour activity and encourage employees to propose energy saving plans.
