Interface Relays, Optocouplers and Contactor Relays are designed for electrical compatibility between isolated functional components, avoiding a direct connection due to high difference of potentials.
The harmonized utilization category AC-1 covers general and resistive type of loads, including non-inductive or slightly inductive loads, as well as resistance furnaces and heaters.

The mechanical opening of a DC circuit under load always leads to arcing, requiring much higher forces for switching and handle the arcing.

For lamp loads ABB offers lamp starter combinations consisting of a MS132-L or MS132-LC lamp circuit breaker and AF-...L lamp contactors. Typical applications are streetlights, greenhouses, and commercial and industrial buildings.

In Low Voltage industrial installations, capacitors are used for reactive energy correction. When these capacitors are energized, over-currents of high amplitude and high frequencies (3 to 15 kHz) occur during the transient period (1 to 2 ms).

Low voltage transformers are used to supply control power to control and auxiliary circuits in distribution and automation boards and to provide galvanic isolation. Vulnerable to electrical failures, they need a proper protection.
