Ultra 2 is the latest mega yacht concept design from T.Fotiadis Design, and its name is said to embody its key features, ultra-quality in both style and eco-friendliness. Equipped with a fully electric Azipod® propulsion system able to cut fuel consumption by up to 20 percent and powered by hybrid diesel-electric motors, the design remains elegant with a powerful profile. Together with batteries enabling zero-emission operation the yacht will reach the most remote and exotic places around the world whilst committing to a reduced environmental footprint. “Ultra 2 is more than an exercise of advanced yacht style, it is a solid design that consider the status of art of propulsion distribution and generation system, perfectly fitted her in elegant and modern lines,” says Riccardo Repetto, Global Segment Manager, Yacht at ABB.
The yacht industry is seeing a shift in priorities as a new generation of owners stay true to their green values and opt for more energy efficient advanced technologies. “Hybrid propulsion is now not only a trend, it is also a must, many of the newbuilds we see today have already adopted for more advanced propulsion systems”, says Theodoros Fotiadis, Managing Director at T.Fotiadis Design. “We are living in very interesting times, big changes are happening not only in the transportation world, but also in the digital world, where we need owners brave enough to take the necessary step forwards and choose alternatives to the traditional systems.”
With the option for ABB Ability™ 800xA, the future crew of Ultra 2 can enjoy a fully integrated ship, where all systems and equipment work together from a single user environment which all information is collected to for a more efficient and safe operation. Alongside a service agreement, ABB will support the owner throughout the lifetime of the vessel. “Traveling with a climate-friendly conscious mind, reaching areas to many unreachable without technology enabling zero-emission operation is key for future yachts”, says mr Fotiadis. “I expect the all numbers related to operation and maintenance of the vessel will go down and the satisfaction go up, I expect that the life of the Captain and his crew will be easier”.
