By installing an ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations Center in their office, Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. achieved seamless and transparent cooperation between their headquarters, ABB engineers and crew on board.
Diamond Offshore wanted to ensure secure communication between their main office in Houston, TX, and their rigs around the world. The existing remote support contract with ABB was extended to a possibility of monitoring the ABB equipment from ashore. What followed was the installation of an ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations Center at Diamond Offshore’s headquarters.
The benefit of continuous monitoring
By installing the ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations Center in their office, Diamond Offshore was able to get real-time access to the operational parameters of their fleet from ashore. According to Diamond Offshore, being able to monitor the ABB equipment remotely gave the company more insight in their day-to-day operation.

ABB Ability™ Collaborative Operations Centers
ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations Centers are harnessing cloud-based analytics to help prevent, predict and rectify remote equipment problems. Every day, ABB it is collecting gigabytes of data from more than 900 connected vessels, with its shore-side experts offering support to engineers on the ship from afar.
By utilizing remote monitoring and predictive analytics, ABB is able to detect failures before customers take notice of them, and apply preventive measures to avoid failures. When a customer has their own ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations Center that monitors the performance of ABB equipment on board of their vessels, information sharing and problem solving becomes even more straightforward.
Available control room solutions
ABB AbilityTM Collaborative Operations Centers include solutions for control rooms and control centers; as well as solutions for collaboration, video walls and video conferencing, crisis management, situational awareness and fleet management.
