ABB prefabricated compact secondary substations (CSS) have the facility to be monitored, controlled or even have complete network management in order to offer full reliability to power providers.
ABB prefabricated Smart CSS can be equipped with the following options of Distribution Automation:
Option 1: CSS Monitoring only
Wireless Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) connected to substation components:
- Medium Voltage Switchgear
- Transformer
- Low Voltage switchboard
All signals are gathered by the RTU and data is available through Serial or Ethernet via communication protocols like IEC61850,DNP3.0,Modbus among others.
Option 2: CSS Monitoring & Control
Wireless Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) connected to substation components:
- Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear
- Transformer
- Low Voltage (LV) switchboard
- Motors (AC or DC operated) on MV & LV equipment
All signals are gathered by the RTU and data is available through Serial or Ethernet via communication protocols like IEC61850, DNP3.0, Modbus among others.
Option 3: CSS Monitoring, Control & Networking
Several CSS can be connected to a master system to monitor and control all substations in the network.
In addition to the equipment listed in option 1 and 2, there is a server computer with SCADA software and OPC capabilities to integrate each and every substation to the master system.
