Field Information Manager direct connectivity to HART Multiplexers through Thorsis isHMuxGate Gateway

Field Information Manager supports connections to RS232/RS485 HART multiplexers and HART field devices connected to those by using the Thorsis HART MuxGate Communication Server with Thorsis isHMuxGate - Ethernet Communication Module.

Setup Instructions

Configuration of network settings for the Thorsis isHMuxGate - Ethernet Communication Module:

  1. Please ensure that the Thorsis isHMuxGate Module is installed and powered on.
  2. Connect the Thorsis isHMuxGate Module to a computer via Ethernet.
  3. Configure the computer network settings as the following:
    IP Address: 192.168.0.11 / Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
  4. Please start a web browser on the computer and open the web interface of the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module by entering the default IP address 192.168.0.10 into address bar.
  5. Within the web interface of the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module, please navigate to “System” -> “Network” and and assign a hostname (e.g. “isHMuxGate”). IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway Address can be changed depending on how the Field Information Manager network is configured.
  6. Please disconnect the Ethernet connection of the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module from the computer.


Exchange the certificates and start the FDI server:

  1. Please connect the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module to the Ethernet to the Field Information Manager Server network.
  2. On the Field Information Manager Server computer please add the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module IP Address and hostname to the "hosts" file.
    The host file is available at C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
    Example entry: 172.16.4.33 isHMuxGate
  3. On the Field Information Manager Server computer please open the web interface of the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module via web browser using IP address of the module. Within the web interface, please navigate to "Protocols" -> "FDI Server" and download the certificate by using the button "Download Server Certificate". This certificate is required on a Field Information Manager Client computer.
  4. Start the Field Information Manager Client, navigate to Tools Menu - OPTIONS - CLIENT/SERVER SETTINGS - TRUSTED CERTIFICATES. Click the "Add certificate" button, specify a name (e.g. of the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module) and browse for the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module certificate. Click the ADD button and the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module certificate is listed as trusted.
  5. Navigate to OWN CERTIFICATE within the open options menu of Field Information Manager Client. Select the own tool certificate, click the "Export selected certificate" button and specify the file location on the exchange storage. This certificate is required in the web interface of the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module.
  6. Within the web interface of the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module, please navigate to "Protocols" -> "FDI Server" and select the button "upload" for uploading the previously exported Field Information Manager certificate. Finally use the "open" button to complete the certificate upload.
  7. "Enable FDI Server" of the Thorsis Thorsis isHMuxGate Module in the same web interface.


Setup the Field Information Manager topology:

  1. Please add the Thorsis HART MuxGate Module Communication Server in the Topology View of Field Information Manager.
  2. Please access the Thorsis HART MuxGate Communication Server object in the Topology and start a Hardware Scan via the Context Menu of the Device Tile.
