Up to the challenge of the open ocean

ABB assists the island community of Vestmannaeyjar Iceland by connecting them to the mainland by supplying the propulsion and charging system for their electric ferry. The ferry has abundant geothermal and hydropower energy to provide clean, zero-emission electricity that outstands diesel and can withstand the extreme North Atlantic conditions. The ferry completes 1,800 roundtrips annually and it boosts the fish and tourism industry by providing dependable transport between ports.
