Pulling ahead

In a collaboration with the Crowley Maritime Corporation, ABB is supplying the electrification technology to power the first all-electric, battery-powered harbor tugboat in the United States, and it is the third of its kind to enter operations worldwide. The eWolf is being equipped with a 6.2 MWh Corvus Orca Energy battery which will enable it to achieve around 63 metric tons of bollard pull, emissions-free. The operation of the new tug plans to eliminate 170 tons of nitrogen oxides (NOx), 2 tons of diesel particulate matter, and 3,100 tons of carbon dioxide over the first 10 years of operations.
