Privacy Notice Talent Acquisition
ABB respects your right to privacy. At ABB and our subsidiary companies, respecting the data privacy rights of the talent who apply for the job ("You” and "Your”) and maintaining the information security of Your personal data with the standard measures to be established and implemented pursuant to the relevant applicable laws and the group standards are our top priority. This notice explains why and how we collect personal data about you, how we process such data, and what rights you have regarding your personal data.
By submitting your application, you confirm that your personal data therein is accurate and up-to-date. Further, you confirm that you have read and understood this Notice, and you are aware that by submitting your application, you acknowledge and agree that ABB can process your personal data to review and assess your application and to take steps to prepare your employment contract.
ABB refers to related ABB company and its subsidiary companies. For the purposes of applicable data protection law, the controller of your data will be the ABB affiliate where you are applying for a position. For further information, please click here to see a list of all ABB affiliates. This notice applies to all such companies.
Sources of your Personal Data. ABB may obtain Your personal data: (a) directly via ABB’s career portal and other communication that ABB may have with You; (b)in some cases, ABB will also process Your personal data indirectly from third parties, including without limitation background check providers, recruitment agencies through which You have applied for a job with ABB, other administration services providers and the subsidiary or affiliates; and (c) in some cases, ABB will also process personal data from publicly available sources such as employment- and business-orientated social networking services (such as LinkedIn and Glassdoor) and career fairs.
Your Personal Data ABB need.
During the recruitment process, ABB may collect the following categories of personal data:
- Your personal details and identificationdata such as name, gender, personal and business address, personal telephone number, personal email address or other contact details, date and country of birth, photo, citizenship and nationality, and the identity document (i.e., identification card or passport);
- Your skill and experience detailssuch as qualifications and certifications including current and previous positions, education and training courses, resume/CV, education records and work achievements, as well as any other evidence;
- Your capability assessments and interview assessment results or feedback that ABB may performand collect, including without limitation assessment score, phone interview recordings/notes, and video interview recordings/notes;
- Any other personal information You choose to disclose to ABB as part of your job application, resume, and the interview;
- In some cases, the contact details of referees;
- Data necessary for the employment contract conclusion and onboarding process of the successful candidates onlysuch as the applicable personal identity number (tax, citizenship, social security or possibly other type of individual number applicable for You in Thailand); data of your related persons (name of spouse/partner, children, etc.); signature; bank account details; emergency contacts; insurance data; driving license number; training records; clothing and shoe size where necessary; and
- After your application, irrespective of whether you have been hired or not, we may send you an email asking you to participate in a survey related to the recruitment process. Your participation in such a survey is voluntary.
- In some countries, during the onboarding process we need to process your health data and data regarding your racial or ethnic origin (only when required by the local law or where this is necessary to secure equal opportunity and treatment for all candidates and employees in ABB, in accordance with the local law). Respectively, any category of personal data mentioned above will not be processed, if such processing is prohibited according to applicable provisions of national law.
In case You gave information of the referees or the related persons that are the third-party data subject to ABB, ABB shall deem that You represent that You have the relevant authority and right to disclose those third-party personal data to ABB to process under this Notice.
Why do we need to process your Personal Data?
The use of Your personal data provided during your job application will be limited to a need basis and shared only with the employees and third parties that are directly involved in the recruitment processes for the specific position. All of the personal data ABB being collected and defined under this Notice will be used for the following purposes:
- To assess your qualifications to find the most suitable candidate for the job You applied for, ABB will process your personal data as part of the precontractual measures fulfilment to establish employment and related contracts, in particular with the purpose of evaluating your application with an aim to find the most suitable candidate for the opened job position;
- To coordinate and contact You during the job application, interview, and employment process;
- To contact You for the potential future recruitment purposes within ABB; or, on the basis of Your consent, a joint venture of ABB and a third party;
- To conclude and complete the employment and onboarding, ABB will process your personal data to undertake steps necessary to confirm that You meet internal and legal requirements relevant to the position; to create and sign the employment contract and other employment documentation; and to perform an onboarding session required for the position You have been recruited; and
- To exercise and protect the legitimate rights and interests of ABB, a joint venture of ABB and a third party, ABB will process Your personal data in order to carry out audits, reviews and compliance checks to monitor the quality of the recruitment process, including compliance with ABB’s corporate policies and legal requirements; respond to complaints or relevant questions; and exercise or defend legal claims.
- In case of employment contract conclusion, on your request we can also process your data as required for performance of the contract in scope of some employment related services (e.g. relocation services or obtaining required visa and work permit).
Profiling and automated processing of your data
We may use automated methods to make a decision based on your personal data. The logic used to make this decision is based on the minimum requirements of the job profile and whether your experience and background meet these requirements. The potential consequences and significance of this automated decision making are that your application may be rejected in case your profile does not meet the minimum requirements of the job description.
In case we use automated methods, you have a right to obtain human intervention or to express your point of view and to contest the decision by submitting a data subject request at www.abb.com/privacy.
We can also use automated methods to analyze your personal data submitted on our recruitment platform and build the profile of our candidates (profiling). The profile will be only used to assess our candidates in a unified manner, ensuring greater consistency and fairness of the recruitment process. The profiling outcome is an additional feedback for the recruiter and does not preordain the results of the recruitment process.
How long we keep your Personal Data?
ABB will only retain Your personal data obtained during the recruitment process as long as our legitimate interest or your consent remains valid. In general, Your personal data will be processed for up to 24 months after the completion of the recruitment process, except for the successful candidate where the employment contract is concluded; ABB will process Your personal data for the duration of the employment contract. Then, after the retention period, your personal information will be deleted.
What happens if you do not provide us with the information we have requested?
Where it concerns processing operations related to your employment (as described above), ABB will not be able to adequately employ You without certain personal data, and you may not be able to exercise your employee rights if You do not provide the personal data requested. Although ABB cannot mandate you to share your personal data with us, please note that this then may have consequences that could affect your employment in a negative manner, such as not being able to exercise your statutory rights or even to continue your employment.
To whom your Personal Data be transferred or disclosed?
ABB only share Your personal data with employees and third parties that are directly involved in the recruitment process that, include the following third parties for the following specific purposes and activities:
- ABB affiliates (inside or outside of Europe) as the data storage service provider and the affiliates that are directly involved in the recruitment process for the specific position and any future recruitment processes based on your consent, and this can also be the case when You apply for a position in a country different to the country in which you are based; provided that your Personal Data that will be shared or disclosed in this circumstances shall be limited only to as necessary and the appropriate information security be maintained, in particular for the Binding Corporate Rules when become effective;
- Third parties, including ABB business partners and joint ventures with third parties, software providers, HR assessment providers, and other third party that are directly involved in the recruitment process to enable the online recruitment platform, sourcing and assessing the candidates, issuing, work permits, visas and other legally required documents and the potential or current acquirers of ABB businesses or assets; provided that the personal data to be shared only on the necessary basis while the information security shall be maintained as defined under the data processing agreement to be entered into between ABB and the third parties; and
- Referee or other persons that You may give consent to ABB to transfer and disclose Your personal data to; provided that ABB will only disclose Your necessary personal data to those parties to verify the accuracy of the personal data that You have provided to us during the recruitment process.

What are your rights? ABB respects your statutory rights under the applicable laws that You may have over your personal data as follows: (a) the right correct any error in your personal data or update it; (b) the right to access your personal data and receive a copy of your personal data that ABB hold, (c) the right to delete your personal data that ABB no longer have a lawful ground to use; (d) the right to port your personal data to a new data processor (if applicable); (e) the right to object to the processing of your personal data based on the legitimate interests grounds; (f) the right to suspend the use of your personal by ABB whilst a complaint or during your right to object or delete is being investigated, or (g) the right to withdraw consent, whenever ABB have asked for your consent for processing of your personal data.
You may make such request at www.abb.com/privacy. In certain circumstances, ABB may need to restrict the above rights to safeguard the public interest (e.g. the prevention or detection of crime) and our interests (e.g. the maintenance of legal privilege).
