Hohe Wartungskosten

Cost-effectiveness

A project delivery is often more cost-effective and has less risks compared to splitting a project between different suppliers. With project delivery, you ensure optimal economic performance and reduced CAPEX and OPEX.

Coordination and minimizing technical risks

A project consists of various types of equipment and systems. The compatibility of different equipment and systems, as well as their interfaces, are crucial. In project delivery, ABB is responsible for the functionality and compatibility.

Optimized resources

Centralized responsibility clarifies contractual responsibilities, enhances cooperation, and ensures information flow, as the customer has a designated contact person for all commercial and technical aspects of the project.

Optimally selected and dimensioned systems

The project team carefully chooses products and product groups that are well-suited to the unique requirements of each project. With project delivery, ABB can optimize equipment selection and dimensioning for the entire project, not just individual components.

Our experienced project team is key to the success of your project. Our comprehensive engineering and process expertise, combined with modern project management and engineering tools, ensure that your project runs smoothly. We implement our customers' projects according to the individual needs of their plants and ensure reliable availability throughout the lifecycle of the processes.

Our experts makes sure that the project proceeds according to plan, within budget and meets the highest quality and safety standards. The project team will ensure that the project stays on schedule and minimizes the impact of any potential changes on the overall project schedule. We always seek the best options for the entire project. If necessary, we will identify flexibilities and alternatives, for example in terms of manufacturing sequencing or alternative equipment types, so that the whole project runs seamlessly. The customer can contact one project manager for all commercial and technical aspects of the project.

Thorough pre-design and expert services minimize project risks and challenges. This is reflected in the project's cost-effectiveness, user-friendliness, installation reliability, safety, flexibility, and a long-term competitive advantage. Using a technology partner from the outset ensures the delivery of well-integrated, carefully designed solutions and technologies.

During the pre-design phase, we define the most important process details, grid requirements, electrical standards, factory layout, grid connections, local utility supply, boarder line, and other special requirements, ensuring a smooth project progression. Additionally, we agree with the customer on a technical change management process to smoothly manage changes during the project.

Our services cover a wide range of needs, including:
  • Network calculations
  • Dimensioning and optimization of electrical network
  • Equipment selection and sizing
  • Design of reactive power compensation and harmonic filtering (sizing, grid placement)
  • Starting analysis for large motors (voltage drops, starting solutions)
  • Protection design (protection functions, types of relays, selectivity, setting values, disconnections)
  • Automation system extension scenarios

pre-design process

ABB Process Industries offers extensive engineering and lead engineering services:

  • Basic technical solutions and dimensions for equipment selection
  • Detailed drawings for manufacturing
  • Interface drawings (customer’s separation point – hardware)
  • Providing other information required by the customer (device dimensions, power dissipation, environmental requirements, installation requirements, etc.)
  • If needed, presenting and analyzing alternative solutions with the customer

The project team is responsible for the site operations just like other parts of the project. We use the resources of the local ABB whenever possible. Depending on the scope of delivery, site operations may include, for example:

  • Site management
  • Installation supervision
  • Testing and commissioning
  • Customer training

ABB provides customer support, maintenance and upgrades throughout the entire life cycle to ensure that products and systems remain functional and meet customers' changing needs. We also conduct analysis of the existing installed base, consultations and life cycle assessments to ensure that you get the most out of your investment. Our local experts provide prompt support throughout the project and offer quick service if any issues arise later. ABB is constantly developing and launching new product generations to replace old ones, thus starting the product lifecycle process again and again.

Collaborative Operations Center offers 24/7 support

ABB's Collaborative Operations Centers, e.g. in Helsinki, and remote operators operating throughout Finland offer real-time remote monitoring and technical support for ABB’s equipment and systems. Our experts can address issues quickly, diagnose the cause of the problem and take the necessary corrective actions remotely.

We also make suggestions for measures to improve operational reliability based on system and device data. By analyzing process and device data, taking care of cyber security and providing preventive support, bottlenecks that cause production losses and weaken profitability can be identified. Connecting devices to the ABB Ability™ system enables the use of analytics, real-time monitoring and performance management to optimize safety, efficiency and productivity.

ABB has strong local automation expertise and comprehensive resources for projects in Finland. Our first-class automation solutions constantly monitor and drive plant productivity, maximizing asset utilization, process efficiency and production quality. ABB has been selected as the global market leader in distributed control systems for the 22nd consecutive year.

Our industry-leading technology integrates the automation of the power and process side of operations – two traditionally separate domains. The industries we serve need reliable power as they strive to improve the sustainability of their operations. Integration of power and process automation enables a higher share of inherently more volatile renewable sources in their energy mix – without compromising reliability.

However, the popular ABB Ability™ System 800xA is not just a distributed control system. It is a process control system, an electrical control system and a safety system and a collaboration enabler, allowing further improvement of engineering efficiency, operator performance and asset utilization. In addition, ABB Ability™ Symphony Plus, is an industry leading DCS in the power, water and wastewater markets and ABB's Freelance offering is a DCS tailor-made for hybrid markets.

With an installed base of 35,000 DCS systems across more than 100 countries ABB is a trusted leader in creating digital solutions for customers in the industrial space.

ABB's modern drives and motors ensure reliable operations, energy efficiency and process performance. The direct drive developed by ABB in Finland is an excellent choice for industries, where reliability and energy efficiency are absolute requirements for all operations. If you strive for the highest availability with the lowest possible operating costs, ABB's unique direct drive technology - connected drive - is reliable from the outset, reduces electricity consumption, reaches very high horsepower at low voltage and more.

ABB’s modern electrical direct drive uses a permanent magnet motor directly coupled to a paper machine. Without the need for gearboxes found in standard induction motors, direct drives offer multiple advantages and savings. Learn about six reasons to choose a direct drive system.

ABB's Ability offering also includes the Paper Machine Drives Performance analytics tool, which can be used to maximize the performance of the drive system.
