A demo consisting of a fan from Novenco and a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) and ultra-low harmonic drive from ABB shows the high energy-saving potential that this solution offers. The efficiency of the ZerAx fan is 92 percent, while the SynRM and the frequency converter have an efficiency of 95 and 98 percent respectively. The result is an excellent efficiency of 85 percent for this solution, approximately 15 percent more than a combination of conventional fan and EC motor without frequency control.
