With introduction of more stringent IMO regulations on emissions, like CII and EEDI, the need for new vessels - such as LNG carriers – to adapt to new technologies and meet these requirements will become more evident, not only to fulfill these requirements but to future proof vessels to ensure a low to zero carbon footprints. The DFE+ solution was designed to offer an efficient power and propulsion concept with flexibility to adapt to the continuous stricter emissions regulations. The main components in the DFE+ concept is ABB’s Dynamic AC (DAC), MANs new generation of 4-stroke engines (operated on variable speed), batteries and an advanced power and energy management system (PEMS).

DFE+ 솔루션은 엄격해져가는 해양 배출 규제에 적용할 수 있게 효율적인 전력 및 추진을 제공하도록 설계되었습니다.

The DFE+ solution was designed to offer an efficient power and propulsion concept with flexibility to adapt to the continuous stricter emissions regulations. The main components in the DFE+ concept is ABB’s Dynamic AC (DAC), MANs new generation of 4-stroke engines(operated on variable speed), batteries and an advanced power and energy management system (PEMS). A study of the DFE+ concept was recently conducted by DNV. This study used the DNV simulation tool COSSMOS, and the energy flow on board an LNG carrier and the propulsion efficiency were simulated. A conventional 2-stroke LNG carrier was used as a benchmark. The results showed that the DFE+ concept is offering a better overall efficiency than the conventical propulsion system used in LNG carriers today. The DFE+ concept is also with its modularity allowing for installation of alternative power sources like fuel cells and others in the future.

ABB variable shaft generator system has made significant advances aiming to increase efficiency. From weight and size, to improved functionality due to innovations in power electronics technology, as well as improved generator design which includes permanent magnet machines and higher performance control; ABB shaft generator system now provides vessel owners higher efficiency and energy savings leading to lower fuel consumption and lower CO2 emission supporting maritime goals to future-proof vessels in order to meet more stringent regulations.
Using the energy efficient main engine to generate electrical power (PTO), the system can boost the main propulsion shaft (PTI), meanwhile provide Power take home (PTH) for an extra layer of redundancy.
In addition, the system offers the opportunity to connect energy storage, shore to ship power and other new energy sources and functionalities to the power and propulsion plant.
The system can be connected to LV or MV switchboard.

Pilot Control is a new way to control your vessel during all operational modes, including maneuvering, transit, and position-keeping. Designed for autonomous and remote operations, the system enables optimal and complete all-speed vessel control from one operator position, using only one joystick and touch screen.
With one system to control the whole voyage, operations simply become easier. Enjoy the smoothness of working from one operator position only, for position keeping, at speed, in transit, with the assistance of collision avoidance advisory, automated braking assistance and autodocking to increase safety and reduce risk. The illustration shows a typical voyage by a WTIV, highlighting where ABB Marine Pilot Control solution will be beneficial. The solution is modular and can be built to suit any vessel from ferries to cruise vessels.
