ABB AbilityTM based transformers to facilitate better asset management while enhancing reliability and optimizing costs
ABB announced the introduction of TXpertTM -- the world’s first digital distribution transformer – in GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries at the 2018 Middle East Electricity international trade show at the Dubai World Trade Centre on March 6th, 2018. The TXpert was originally released in 2017 and is now commercially available for GCC countries.
ABB developed a digital distribution transformer to meet the needs of today’s evolving grid. Many new and distributed sources of energy call for more flexibility and are driving the need for greater digitalization and automation.
The TXpert digital distribution transformer provides intelligence to maximize reliability, optimize operating and maintenance costs and manage the asset more efficiently. This latest innovation builds on the ABB Ability™ digital offering that uses cloud computing and connected devices to generate actionable data for a broad range of customers. This product is the first of its kind to integrate sensing technology directly into the transformer during the manufacturing process, resulting in higher accuracy.
Using ABB’s focused factories, including manufacturing sites dedicated to GCC countries, the TXpert leverages ABB’s transformer experience and digital technology expertise. This innovation provides direct support for our local customers’ needs for real-time information and a more reliable distribution grid.
Critical data collected from TXpert’s sensors is stored and analyzed within the transformer, offering insights on how it is operating. This gives utilities, industries and installations, like data centers, vital information to make key decisions on the operation and maintenance of their transformers. These cost-saving benefits support activities like scheduling of maintenance, optimizing system performance and planned asset replacement.
