ABB has received a repeat order from Doosan Heavy Industries to automate a 600 megawatt (MW) supercritical coal-fired power plant in Vietnam, an extension of the Vinh Tan 4 supercritical thermal power plant located about 230 km east of Ho Chi Minh City. Upon completion, the complex will provide an additional 5,600 MW of electricity to the national grid.

The order comes less than a year after ABB won the first contract for Vinh Tan 4, one of the four generating plants built in Binh Thuan province. The new complex and its extension have been compelled to ensure energy security to the Region in an era of solid economic growth, ongoing industrialization and increasing electrification demand.

For both Vinh Tan 4 and the extension units, ABB is supplying the latest technology from its flagship Symphony Plus total plant automation system, which will control the plant's boiler and auxiliaries, and includes modulating and sequence control systems, data acquisition and feed water pump systems. ABB will deliver the complete supply, detailed design, engineering, testing and commissioning.

Plant data will be captured using the latest generation Symphony Plus SD Series flexible control and input/output (I/O) modules, which provide top performance in diverse operating conditions. Delivering the right amount of data for users while allowing for an equal dose of experience and intuition is the hallmark of the Symphony Plus total automation system, helping customers maintain plant availability and efficiency, and improve performance and profitability.

ABB is recognized by ARC Advisory Group as the global leader in distributed control systems (DCS) and the number one supplier of DCS, and Symphony Plus is the latest generation of ABB's highly successful Symphony family of control systems. Since its launch in 2011, ABB Symphony Plus automation has been installed globally in systems totaling more than 50 gigawatts (GW) of power capacity, meeting the needs of customers in power, water and industrial sectors in all geographic markets.

ABB (www.abb.com) is a leading global technology company in power and automation that enables utility, industry, and transport & infrastructure customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact.
