The 8th Automation World held by ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, kicks off today in Wuhan International Exhibition Center. The 5,000+ square meter exhibition area showcases ABB's latest leading products and technologies, including industrial robots, low-voltage motors equipped with intelligent sensor technology, all-compatible drives and remote services, DC fast chargers for electric vehicles, micro-grid solutions, and smart home and intelligent building energy management platforms. The exhibition also showcases innovative solutions for railway systems, OGC, auto manufacturing, iron & steel, non-ferrous metals, equipment manufacturing and shipbuilding industry. All these products are designed to facilitate the transformation, upgrading and sustainable development of industry, utilities, transport and infrastructure in China.
With the emergence of the "Internet of Things", cloud computing and big data, technology is ushering in a new industrial revolution, characterized by digitization, communication and connectivity. Over a decade, ABB has been working to develop and enhance process control systems, communications solutions, sensors and software for the Internet of Things, Services and People (IoTSP). These technologies enable our customers in industries, utilities and infrastructure to analyze their data more intelligently, optimize their operations, boost their productivity, and their flexibility.
ABB CEO, Ulrich Spiesshofer, said, "China is in a new stage of development focused on enhanced productivity, energy efficiency and sustainability under the 13th Five Year Plan and the Made in China 2025 strategy. ABB is strongly positioned in all these areas and has a track record of pioneering technology leadership going back 125 years. We will continue to provide innovative solutions to strengthen the competitiveness of Chinese customers in utility, industry, and transport & infrastructure customers locally and globally."
Industrial robots are an important element in intelligent manufacturing. At the 8th Automation World, ABB deploys 20 robot stations to demonstrate the application of industrial robots in material handling, palletizing, assembling, laser carving, grinding, welding, labeling, sorting and many other applications. It also shows the precise action and position control of YuMi®, the world's first truly collaborative dual-arm 14-axle robot through such interesting ways as folding paper planes and solving the Rubik cube.
ABB also exhibits its leading process automation solutions for various industries, which enable users to improve intelligent management level and operational efficiency. As the new generation of ABB's total plant automation for the power and water industries, Symphony Plus is designed to maximize plant efficiency and reliability through automation, integration, and optimization of the entire plant. ABB's DCIM system provides system platform tools of industrial process automation level for data centers so as to manage power distribution, air-conditioning and IT assets, helping users to improve efficiency of operation and maintenance, and reduce cost.
The coordination between economic and environmental development cannot be separated from energy efficiency. In the industrial sector, energy efficiency can be achieved by combing drives and efficient motors. At this Automation World, ABB introduces an energy-saving model jointly with an all-compatible medium-voltage drive ACS580MV and new generation high voltage modular induction motor NMI. This will offer users in the power and water industries a high-powered and efficient motor and drive combination and one-stop service. Over the past decade, ABB drives have helped domestic customers save over 290 TWh of power, equivalent to the power consumption of some 550 million people based on per capita household power consumption of national urban and rural residents in China in 2015.
In addition, ABB's intelligent sensors can realize remote monitoring on low-voltage motors and send operational data to the cloud for analysis to inform smart phone users of performance reports and maintenance insights in a timely manner. This solution will help reduce the downtime of motors by up to 70%, extend their lifetime by 30%, and decrease energy consumption by about 10%. Imagine all motors around the world were equipped with ABB's smart sensors, the energy savings would remarkably be equal to the output of 100 large power plants.
ABB's digital technology is also outstanding in power distribution, enabling businesses to save energy and improve efficiency. ABB's Ekip SmartVision, an innovative cloud computing platform, helps users to monitor, optimize and control the electrical system by using Emax 2 circuit breaker's intelligent functions and connectivity, so as to carry out more efficient and remote power management. This technology can enhance energy efficiency by up to 30% while improving the reliability of electrical system. It fits with small and medium companies, as well as commercial and public buildings. Emax 2, as the world's first low-voltage circuit breaker integrating energy management function, can protect electrical circuits, and measure and evaluate energy consumption, so as to help users to maximize energy conservation and emissions reduction.
At Automation World 2016, ABB also displays the integrated micro-grid solution supporting the development and utilization of renewable energy. ABB has over 25 years' experience in designing and running micro-grid systems. It provides one-stop solutions that cover power generation with renewable energy, traditional power generation, micro-grid control system, energy storage and grid stabilizing systems, power distribution and automation systems. ABB can also provide several micro-grids with one service platform, which includes operations management, real-time data collection, power generation forecasts, equipment status detection remote maintenance and system upgrading. ABB technologies can increase the share of renewable energy in micro-grids to 100%, and provide powerful support for the construction of a greener and more sustainable energy landscape.
More technological highlights include smart home system "i-jia" with wireless network technology and infra-red technology; all-compatible high power DC fast charger Terra 53 Z, which can ensure a 100km range for electric vehicles after 20 mins charging; SmiS - new intelligent MNS switchgear with integration of Ether-net technology and smart sensors; ABB's remote-enabled service delivery platform ServicePort™, which allows users to view, scan and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure maximum performance of equipment and processes; and EM series smart meter with integration of precision measurement, intelli-gent protection and remote control. Meanwhile, visitors have the opportunity to personally experience the operation of robots and cool smart home applications through virtual reality and augmented reality technol-ogy.
As ABB's largest annual customer event, ABB Automation World has been successfully held for eight consecutive years in China. Themed as "Smart Technology, Intelligent Upgrading", this year's Automation World offers exhibitions, one theme forum, seven industry forums and over 130 technological lectures and seminars, with over 4,000 participants exchanging views on industrial challenges and opportunities under the trend of "IoTSP". It's the first year that this event is held in Wuhan. It's also the first time for the event to open to the public.
As China inland's largest transportation hub in water, road, and air, as well as the shipping center in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, Wuhan is geographically well-positioned and has such competitive industries as photoelectron, iron and steel, chemical, automobile, equipment manufacturing, energy, environmental protection and information technology. Under the national strategy of "Yangtze River Economic Zone", it has huge development potential.
In recent years, ABB has participated in the construction of next-generation smart substations and multiple high-voltage DC transmission lines in Hubei Province, and provided leading products and technical supports to such metro lines as Wuhan Metro Line 2, 3, 6 and airport line, modern streetcars of Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone and Wuhan-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway. Moreover, ABB provided equipment to CCB Wuhan Disaster Backup and Recovery Center, one of Asia's largest financial data centers. ABB`s power and automation products are also adopted in Wuhan CSOT T3 project, SINOPEC, WISCO Fangchenggang, and Hubei Valeo vehicle headlight automatic production line, enabling customers in different industries to enhance productivity and energy efficiency, and supporting Wuhan to establish itself as a nationally advanced manufacturing center.
