ABB delivers its UniPack-G, the latest Compact Secondary Substation (CSS), to China SGCC Jiangsu Wuxi City. The UniPack-G combines all existing housing and enclosure (steel and concrete) positive features into one product.
In the past, the customer chose to use a concrete CSS material (GRC). Because their running environment was in a rainy, moist area, it was important that the new CSS they planned to use provided anti-corrosion and anti-rust features. Additionally, they were faced with the challenge of transportation and installation. GRC is quite heavy; therefore, ABB had to provide an alternative solution.
With an identified goal of relentless execution, ABB organized a product introduction workshop with the customer in Wuxi with support from the local factory and sales teams. ABB High Voltage Switchgear Co., Ltd. Beijing and Yangzhou SAC Switchgear Co., Ltd., in collaboration with ABB sales teams and the Modular Systems product group, provided their full support for the high-quality product design and production to ensure a perfect delivery.
With the product being lightweight, especially compared to the GRC, no heavy crane was necessary. Additionally, it was able to be lifted with the transformer inside. These all contributed to a seamless installation and positive customer experience. The final order was delivered at the end of 2014.
CSS product features
CSS is a type-tested assembly comprising an enclosure containing medium voltage switchgear, distribution transformers, low voltage switchboards, connections and auxiliary equipment. It is intended for energy transformation in secondary distribution networks from MV to LV or LV to MV. These substations are typically installed in locations accessible to the public and should ensure protection for all people according to specified service conditions. All CSS components shall be type- and routine-tested per their relevant product standards.
