ABB has supplied five high-voltage motors at one of the largest thermal power stations, PT. Jawa Power. This is the first HV motors installed in this coal-fired power plant which is owned and operated by PLN to supply electricity into Java and Bali’s 500 kV grid.

PT. Jawa Power owns a 1,220 MW coal-fired power station located at the Paiton power generation complex in East Java, Indonesia. It is one of the largest IPPs in Indonesia with 30-year power purchase agreement with PT. PLN (Persero), the state-owned electric utility company.

Jawa Power’s existing facility has faced an increased need to modernize their outdated equipment and retrofit their applications with robust and high-efficiency industrial fans to remain viable in an increasingly competitive market. Additionally, coal-fired power plant requires an ongoing maintenance and upgrade to keep them running smoothly.

In this project, ABB supplies high-voltage motors to increase induced draft (ID) fan capacity. Jawa Power chose ABB motors to drive the ID fan so it can increase efficiency and ultimately saving long-term operating and maintenance costs. With the increased capacity of ID fan, the customer can also apply the low-rank coal where previously it can only use the high-rank coal. By installing this, ABB products help the customer to save the cost while keeping the maximum productivity.

“ABB supplies the HV motors to help Jawa Power reach new levels of efficiency and energy savings. We commit to match our customer’s request and provide excellent after-sales support, “ explained Dedy Hidayat, Service Manager in Motors & Generators, Motion.
