ABB Canada Earns Women in Governance Silver Parity Certification

ABB Canada has been awarded Silver status under the Women in Governance’s Parity Certification, in recognition of the organization’s commitment to implementing strategies that enable and support women at all levels of the organization and support them to achieve their career aspirations.

Creating an inclusive environment, in which everyone is treated with respect and can succeed is at the heart of ABB under its core values of Courage, Care, Curiosity and Collaboration.

“Diversity and inclusion are what makes us a strong and successful team - together we are proving that we can achieve higher innovation and advancement when we embrace what makes us different,” says Eric Deschenes, Country Managing Director and Head of Electrification business, ABB Canada. “Equitable representation, promotion and opportunities for all genders is to be celebrated for it ultimately enriches us as humans.”

Women in Governance was founded in 2010 to support women in their leadership development, career advancement and access to Board seats. Created with the support of McKinsey & Company, the "Women in Governance Parity" certification is the only Canadian corporate certification that undertakes an in-depth analysis of an organization's culture and position on gender parity to increase the representation of women in senior management as well as throughout corporate ranks.

The objective and desire to a create a gender-balanced workplace is continuously on the agenda at ABB and, while the organization has made advancement in bridging the equitable representation gap between men and women, the company’s next steps will be to further empower every member of the organization to embrace an inclusive ethos.

In 2020, ABB established its new “Global Diversity & Inclusion Strategy 2030” through which it plans to double the proportion of female managers worldwide over the next ten years. With this step, ABB aims to increase the share of women in senior management positions from 12.5 to 25 percent. The target forms part of ABB’s broader ambition to foster inclusion and equality across all areas of diversity, including gender, abilities, generations, ethnicity, and LGBTQ+. ABB will be offering employees inclusive leadership training, development and mentoring programs; as well as learning interventions to foster an inclusive culture.

“Diversity is not just about physical appearance or gender; it’s about welcoming a full range of talents from across the entire future and current Canadian workforce. While we aim as an organization to double our share of women in management positions, it is also our duty to build and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion to further improve our business performance and to take an active role in cultivating this environment to shape a better tomorrow,” says Sylvie Bergeron, Vice-President of Human Resources and Electrification business partner, ABB Canada.

In honour of International Women’s Day, ABB is driving momentum via a global and local recognition campaign to show their support in showcasing talent, forging a gender equal world, celebrating female accomplishments, raising awareness against bias, and taking action for equality.
