ABB today released the 900th edition of ABB Review, the company’s technical journal. The corporate journal has been in continuous publication since 1914 which makes it one of the longest-running corporate journals of any kind. Published quarterly, the ABB Review presents the company’s innovations and breakthroughs that are transforming and reshaping technologies and products in both commercial and industrial contexts.
Titled “Journey of innovation,” the latest issue’s lead article traces the history of the journal and how it has documented successive innovations and breakthroughs that transformed and reshaped industries, technologies and products.
“ABB Review embodies a spirit of innovation that has always been core to our company,” writes ABB CEO Björn Rosengren in the issue’s opening pages. “The innovations we showcase here – charging for electric mining vehicles, a next-generation drive control platform, collaborative operations for shipping fleets and more – are among the latest examples of ABB’s work to make possible what wasn’t possible before.”
Peter Voser, Chairman of ABB, also comments in the issue: “I am pleased to see this landmark 900th edition of ABB Review. The journal exemplifies our company culture of customer-driven innovation and commitment to pushing technology boundaries in sectors like manufacturing, transportation, utilities and construction, for a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.”
In a guest editorial for the special issue, Laura Sprechmann, CEO, Nobel Prize Outreach, acknowledges ABB as a Nobel International Partner, and shares: “On the occasion of the 900th issue of ABB Review, our partnership acknowledges once again the importance of creative minds for a more sustainable and resource-efficient future.”
Additionally, a section of the issue is devoted to articles about the most recent research and development breakthroughs that could have the greatest impact on customers’ business this year and going forward, which have been selected by the Chief Technology Officers of ABB’s four business areas, as well as a series focusing on the topics of digitalization, and transportation and efficiency.
From the first edition launched by one of ABB’s predecessor companies, Brown, Boveri & Cie (BBC) and titled BBC Review, the journal’s purpose has been to inform customers of ABB’s technologies and research activities. A key pillar of ABB’s heritage, the Swedish company ASEA started a similar journal in 1924, named ASEA Journal. With the merger of ASEA and BBC in 1988, the two publications joined forces to form ABB Review.
The ABB Review continues to support the company's position as a technological leader and enhances ABB's reputation for technical and research excellence. Readership surveys have consistently shown that ABB Review is valued by its readership, who appreciate its objectivity and accuracy. An online version of ABB Review has been available since 2001. ABB Review is presently strengthening its online presence by adding supplementary material such as podcasts.
Today, the ABB Review has a global readership of almost 40,000 people interested in technology. It is published in English, German and Chinese. The latest edition of the ABB Review is available for both download and subscription at www.abb.com/abbreview.
