- Drone show highlights importance of ABB’s Trapagaran factory producing ring motors used in Gearless Mill Drives – a key component in the ore milling process in mines
Bilbao, Spain, witnessed a spectacular drone show this month, marking a milestone of innovation by ABB, a leading technology company in electrification and automation. During the ABB Gearless Mill Drives (GMD) Users Meeting*, 200 drones illuminated the night sky in a cutting-edge display of light, colors, and precision, demonstrating the continually evolving capability of drone technology supporting mining industries.
ABB's drone show was the first in the city, and in the company's history, marking the 10-year anniversary of its Trapagaran factory. It concluded an informative event aimed at the Gearless Mill Drives industry on the terrace of Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum, following four days of informative factory tours, round table discussions, presentations, and demos of augmented and virtual reality.
Mikel Torre, General Manager of the Ring Motors Factory, said: "At ABB, we are committed to creating a cleaner, safer and more efficient future for all industries. This event in Bilbao not only marks a milestone for our company, but also symbolizes our commitment to creativity and the constant search for innovative and sustainable solutions. At ABB we believe in working closely with our customers to understand their challenges and goals, and to be able to offer customized solutions that drive their success."
The event marked an invaluable opportunity to highlight the importance of the ABB Ring Motors factory in Bilbao. This is the epicenter of the production of the ring motors used in Gearless Mill Drives, a key component in the mineral milling process in mines, essential for the extraction of metals used in virtually all manufacturing industries.
These revolutionary systems are manufactured in Switzerland, but the technology at its heart is located in the Bilbao factory, the only ABB factory dedicated exclusive to this task. This facility has established itself as the cornerstone of the company's GMD business, playing an indispensable role in its global supply chain.
ABB has made continuous investments in the Bilbao factory since acquiring it in 2013, ensuring its capacity to meet the growing demand for ring motors for GMD systems, demonstrating its commitment to innovation, technological excellence, customer satisfaction and leadership in the automation and electrification industry.
