In 2019, ABB celebrated the 25th anniversary of several facilities, including ABB Xinhui and ABB Beijing Drive Systems Co., showcasing the company's deep roots in China. By delivering more than 5 million units of drive products since its establishment, the Beijing facility has enabled the reduction of 430 million tons of CO2 emissions – the equivalent of the annual electricity production of 64 power plants. In 2018, an ABB AbilityTM Motion Digital Center was added to ABB Beijing Drive Systems Co.

Another example for how ABB is building on its strong heritage in China to drive the future of industry is the ABB’s Xiamen Low Voltage Equipment Co., which has become a manufacturing benchmark in electrification in China since its establishment in 1994 and evolved from a production facility into a digital factory. The data-driven seamless coordination of operations with advanced production lines, equipped with robots and radio frequency identification technology (RFID), have improved production capacity and quality and sped up manufacturing processes, which has helped ensured on-time delivery and short lead times. Further innovative solutions are developed in a local R&D center, which is part of the Xiamen Hub, the world’s largest ABB manufacturing base for medium and low-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers. Located in the Fujian province, China, the Hub employs around 4,000 people across the full value chain of ABB’s operations, including R&D, manufacturing, engineering, sales and service for low-voltage products and solutions.

China’s economic transformation driven by technological innovation is unlocking huge market opportunities. With a strong heritage and deep-rooted commitment to China, ABB is in the ideal position to continue driving innovation and co-developing technologies, products, solutions and applications across the entire value chain. A recent illustration is ABB’s strategic partnership with the Chinese technology giant Huawei. The two companies will collaborate and co-innovate, leveraging technologies of cloud, artificial intelligence, internet of things and industrial expertise to unlock the potential of the digital transformation of industries and ultimately benefit Chinese customers.
