Safety Corner: 5 ways to protect yourself against  PM 2.5

center

PM2.5 (Particulate Matter) are formed as a result of burning fuel and chemical reactions that take place in the atmosphere. Natural processes such as forest fires also contribute to PM2.5 in the air. These particles are also the primary reason for occurrence of smog. (Watch PM 2.5 infographic video in Thai here). When the amount of PM2.5 is at unhealthy level, take these steps to reduce exposure and protect your health:

1. Stay indoors and close all windows and openings that allow polluted air to enter, when possible and clean your house every day.

 2. Try to avoid touching the dust, especially for risk groups; elderly, pregnant woman, children, and patients with pathological diseases, asthma and allergies patients.

 3. Use N95 mask or higher quality face mask.

 4. Reduce the use of cars, stop burning waste and avoid smoking.

 5. Avoid outdoor activities when pollution levels are high. If you must go outdoor, make it short and quick, and wear a N95 or higher face mask.
